The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications from all eligible organizations for a program to provide support to civil society organizations (CSOs), independent media and independent labor organizations (in presence and non-presence countries) to ensure citizens’ participation and inclusion and government’s transparency and accountability as well as integration of these principles into other sectors as they work with civil society.
USAID strongly encourages applicants to develop consortia with other responsible and eligible organizations (U.S. or Non-U.S. Organizations) with complementary capabilities and experiences if conducive to the achievement of results under the program objectives.
Funds Available
This RFA provides an estimate of the total award amount for the Leader Award of $2,500,000.00 and Associate Awards (estimated): $200,000,000.00.
Programme Objectives
The projects expected goals are
- Strengthen civil society and independent media organizations to advance DRG objectives.
- Strengthen civil society and independent media organizations to advance other development goals (education, health, economic growth, environment, etc.).
Priority Areas
Promote participatory, representative and inclusive political processes and government institutions.
- Assist civil society and government partners to advance civil and political rights, including the freedoms of expression, association, peaceful assembly, and access to information.
- Promote politically engaged and informed citizenries, active civil society organizations, organized labor, independent and open media, and representative political parties.
Foster greater accountability of institutions and leaders to citizens and to the law.
- Support the ability of civil society and independent and open media to provide oversight and an informed critique of government.
Protect and promote universally recognized human rights.
- Prevent violations by strengthening human rights frameworks, institutions, and oversight.
- Promote human rights principles, in accordance with universal values and international norms.
- Promote normative-legal-regulatory environments that respect and promote freedoms of press and information, and open access to information.
Improve development outcomes through the integration of DRG principles and practices across USAID’s development portfolio.
- Strengthen country-based mechanisms for participation, inclusion, and local ownership across all USAID development sectors.
- Encourage host governments and civil society to employ legitimate and effective accountability mechanisms.
- Promote equality of opportunity and access to public goods and services, particularly with respect to poor and marginalized populations.
