AWOMI Young Women’s Knowledge and Leadership Institute 2012 Call for Applications

The African Women’s Millennium Initiative (AWOMI) has announced a call for applications for  the fourth edition of the Young Women’s Knowledge and Leadership Institute (YOWLI) will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from December 26, 2012 to January 2, 2012 under the theme: “Young People Defining Social Justice Agenda in Africa.”

YOWLI is a space for exchange and capacity development to reinforce knowledge, networking, organizing and advocacy. It has provided to hundred of young people the opportunity to create their own organization, to advance in their professional development, to speak for the voiceless or to go back to school to continue their graduate studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be African or of African descent
  • Be aged between 18 and 25 by December 2012
  • Be a student member of an organization
  • Be tolerant, truthful and humble; demonstrate leadership abilities; be creative and demonstrate critical thinking abilities.

For participants who will be fully funded by the program, plane ticket or ground transportation and room and board will be provided. Participants who self-fund their participation should cover their travel costs and pay $3000 for participating.

  1. Thanks for mainstreaming Gender since this issue is undermined in the most African societies. Yes men should also appreciate women since we can share the same responsibility and can do alot in development.
