The Northeast Asia Regional Peace building Institute (NARPI) will take place in August 2012 in Hiroshima, Japan. Peace Boat, a member of the organizing committee of this institute invites all interested people to join the programme.
NARPI is a Peace building Institute in which participants from Northeast Asia receive training in the areas of peace building, restorative justice, conflict transformation and mediation. NARPI seeks to build relationships between people from different parts of Asia and seek transformative and positive approaches to conflict and cultural differences within these training programs.
NARPI is working to strengthen and empower people in Northeast Asia by offering peace-building training and building cross-cultural networks. Northeast Asia is a region of historical, territorial, military and nuclear tensions. Today, several human and financial resources are dedicated to the militarization of Northeast Asian nations. Transforming the existing culture of animosity and militarism into a culture of peace and reconciliation can be possible through education and a fundamental paradigm shift. However, a loop hole exists in the field of education and training opportunities where people empowered with the skills, knowledge and resources need to bring about this change.
Owing to the following reasons, NARPI is highly significant institute for this region. The institute not only offers vital training in conflict transformation but in peace-building as well. The idea of NARPI was born from the discovery of needs and demands from activists and students working in the field of peace building. NARPI comprises partners from Northeast Asia and will train students mainly from this region.
