CARE is seeking applications from qualified and deserving candidates for the vacancy Senior Advisor Emergency Food & Security. Locations of this job will be based in Atlanta, GA-US. This is a full time, accompanied -family position with upto 40% travel.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- 10 years international experience with specific experience in designing and implementing food security and/or nutrition programs, cash and voucher based programs, monitoring of nutritional indicators, supply chain management, logistics and food non-food distribution programs;
- Substantial experience responding to major emergencies overseas and working with appropriate emergency donors;
- Demonstrated experience of internationally accepted food security and nutrition concepts, standards and practices, as well as strategic planning, program analysis, grant management and organizational skills;
- Strong management, coordination and mentoring skills, especially with cross-cultural groups under difficult field conditions;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Excellent communication;
- Decisiveness;
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting;
- Ability to set priorities for self and team, and ensure these priorities are addressed;
- Willingness to travel up to 40%, at times under extreme working conditions;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint);
- Fluency in English as well as at least one of the following: French, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic or a major African language;
- Ability to envision the broader macro picture of emergency operations yet able to maintain a handle on the specific micro detail of operational setup when deployed to the field.
- Ability to operate in the field in challenging environments and lead, train and coordinate multi-cultural staff as needed;
- Ability to keep focused on the overall CARE strategy while developing programs that are sensitive to cultural, gender and political realities of the workplace.
Desired:
- Masters degree with concentration in food security, nutrition or related field;
- 5-8 years experience managing, coordinating, implementing, and/or evaluating international operations and programs;
- Substantial experience responding to major emergencies overseas and working with appropriate emergency donors (eg OFDA, UNHCR, ECHO, WFP, etc.);
- Experience managing, training and supervising diverse staff in emergency situations.
