Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Division Chief, Accounting in Washington DC, United States.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Division Chief, Accounting performs the following functions-
- Establishes the Bank’s accounting policies in compliance with U.S. GAAP and monitors internal controls over financial reporting in compliance with the Bank’s internal control framework.
- Closely follows the accounting and reporting standard setters and news, pro-actively identifying possible changes that may affect the Bank.
- Manages the operations of the Accounting Division in the execution of its work program to ensure the integrity of the accounting information databases, compliance with Bank’s accounting policies, and the issuance of timely and accurate financial statements and related Management reports.
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Unit Chief and Group Heads to effectively utilize and develop staff and to identify and capture re-engineering opportunities to increase productivity.
- Supervises the preparation of and reviews and approves the Bank’s periodic financial statements and related Management reports, as well as the quarterly Management’s Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) and Condensed Financial Statements, the annual MD&A and audited financial statements, and the Information Statement. Coordinates the external audits.
- Serves as expert advisor to Finance Management, other Business Units, Senior Management, and the Board of Executive Directors on matters relating to the accounting and reporting for Bank transactions, including derivatives, and on potential or planned changes in accounting and reporting and auditing standards that may impact the Bank.
- Assumes responsibility for the Division’s budget and the adequacy of staff resources to execute the Division’s work program. Ensures the work plans of the Division are aligned with the broader goals and strategies of the Bank, and the quality of the deliverables.
- Supervises FIN/ACC’s Costa Rica Service Center implementation and operation.
- Presents quarterly and/or annual financial statements to Senior Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Executive Directors or other relevant Committees, and as appropriate, reports to the Audit Committee on changes to the Bank’s accounting policies resulting from new accounting pronouncements as well as other accounting related matters.
- Oversees the implementation of new accounting and reporting pronouncements.
- Leads, manages, mentors, and assesses Division’s staff and provides goals and expectations, feedback, and technical guidance to optimize performance.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree or equivalent in finance, business administration, accounting, or other relevant field required. Certification to practice public accounting (CPA) is required, US CPA preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in accounting (of which eight years are at international level) acquired within a multinational environment.
- Experience in management positions in both private and public sectors, including international financial institutions will be valued.
- Knowledge of the financial markets of the Latin America and Caribbean region is a plus.
- Expertise in accounting for financial institutions operations (including loans, investments, borrowings and derivatives), accounting for multi-currency transactions, establishing and evaluating internal controls, analyzing accounting pronouncements and writing accounting policies and procedures, implementing, controlling and maintaining large-scale financial/accounting software as the lead user, supporting external auditors and reporting under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principal (U.S. GAAP) and/or International Accounting Standards.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
- Working knowledge of Portuguese or French is a plus.
