The World Bank is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Operations Officer based in Washington DC, USA.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Operations Officer will perform the following functions-
- Play a lead role in collaborating with recipient Governments in the regions assigned on GEF issues, including country programming and STAR implementation; lead the GEF Country Support Program for those regions and represent the Secretariat in country consultations.
- Play a key role in dialogue with governments on a broad range of policy issues; support governments in translating GEF strategies into concrete programs and projects and help countries to access and benefit from GEF experiences worldwide; clarify GEF requirements and procedures where necessary; play a strong role in assisting governments to make effective use of available resources. Work with GEF Agency representatives as necessary to help countries to get projects approved and executed;
- Understand governments’ concerns and convey them to the Secretariat and GEF agencies; ensure regular and informed communication with countries on GEF policies and procedures;
- Help develop strategies and programs to enhance GEF’s impacts in the region’s countries;
- Maintain relevant files and databases on GEF country activities to monitor and track progress.
- Undertake other assignments as requested within the Policy, Partnerships and Operations Unit within the mandate of GEF.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in economics, environmental policy, law, international relations or related areas and a minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience;
- Experience in developing countries and in dealing with a range of stakeholders as well as international organizations, development agencies, scientific and technical bodies, developing country counterparts, and NGOs is desirable; ability to develop constructive mutually beneficial working relationships with such groups;
- Excellent oral and written communications and editing skills in English;
- Working Knowledge of other languages, especially French and or Spanish, would be an advantage;
- Demonstrated diplomatic and negotiating skills;
- Ability to represent the GEF at highest level with governments;
- Demonstrated ability to think and write analytically, strategically, and programmatically;
- Ability to understand policies, procedures and technical issues related with the GEF and/or other similar global environmental/development operations;
- Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment in a collaborative and constructive way;
- High degree of self-motivation, initiative, flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness to changing demands;
- Ability to cooperate effectively with other professionals in a matrix management environment, to work under pressure of tight deadlines, and to respond to changing demands;
- Demonstrated willingness to assist others and perform whatever tasks are necessary to help the team achieve its goals; strong interpersonal skills; excellent team player.
