The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Finance Officer in Kampala, Uganda.
The Senior Finance Officer will oversee all financial operations and implementation of financial systems ensuring conformity to DRC Operations handbook and in line with overall corporate operations strategy.
DRC is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1956 that works in more than 30 countries throughout the world, by fulfilling its mandate of providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in the conflict areas of the world.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Finance Officer will perform the following functions-
- Ensure effective implementation of operational strategies, adapts compliance with DRC Operations handbook, donor regulations, and policies of financial activities, financial recording/reporting system and follow-up on audit recommendations.
- Timely and accurate financial reporting to donors.
- Implementation of effective internal controls, proper functioning of financial resource management systems.
- Maintenance of the internal expenditure control system which ensures that vouchers processed are matched and completed, transactions are correctly recorded and posted in the cash books.
- Bi-monthly consolidation and review cashbooks from Field offices. Ensure that the cashbooks are verified and submitted on time to HQ within the specified time.
- Timely review of cash position for operations to ensure sufficient funds on hand for disbursements.
- Maintain primary contact with local bank management on routine operational matters including negotiation of exchange rate. To serve as member of bank signatory panel.
- Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions to relevant Government institutions.
- Timely and accurate preparation of bank reconciliations.
- Ensure security for credit card and verify charges to credit card.
- Maintenance of the Accounts Receivables for DRC Uganda projects. Timely identification and recording of income received from Donors.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Degree in Finance or Accounting and final or Part certification in CPA or ACCA with at least 5 years work experience in finance or accounting in INGOs.
- Excellent knowledge in preparing major international donor reports.
- Possess strong analytical and conceptual skills.
- Proven management skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Proven commitment to accountable practices.
- Knowledge of working in challenging environments.
- Nationality of Uganda.
