World Vision (WV) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Behavior Change Senior Coordinator in Hargeisa, Somalia. The duration for the post is of less than 1 year.
The Behavior Change Senior Coordinator will be responsible for providing specialist technical input and leadership for hygiene, sanitation and public health promotion in WV Somalia’s operational communities, as well as assisting to WV Somalia’s project teams in implementing effective and sustainable behavior change approaches, particularly in WASH but also in other sectors, national sanitation and behaviour change teams and staff of relevant ministries.

Key Jobs Responsibility
The Behavior Change Senior Coordinator will perform the following functions-
- Contribute to the planning of the WASH programmes, specifically the development of CLTS and hygiene behaviour change, with authorities.
- Contribute to WV’s collaborative planning and implementation of CLTS interventions by the geographic WASH team (and new response WASH teams if required) integrating CLTS with the different program sectors (Livelihoods, Health, Nutrition) and support functions (HR, Logistics, Finance) according to identified priorities and the response phase (acute first emergency phase, stabilization or transition phase, recovery and long term development phase) linked to the country strategy, including promoting the community’s resilience to future emergencies.
- Contribute to the development of Disaster Risk Reduction and contingency planning with authorities.
- Ensure that mainstreaming and integration of gender, HIV and protection issues are considered and integrated in the work plan.
- Ensure that the CLTS and behaviour change projects address the special needs of Children, the elderly and disabled.
- Monitor implementation of activities on CLTS and behaviour change in the work plans and support the update the plans if required.
- Provide timely information on the procurement needs for sanitation and behavior change to WV Somalia support team (logistics, finance) and do procurement activities.
- Support the WASH Teams’ work with the Local authorities health Officers and Sanitary Inspectors to apply the approaches for CLTS and behaviour change to the local context, taking into account WV Somalia team’s and partners’ capacities.
- Adapt and implement appropriate participatory approaches for local capacity building for CLTS and behaviour change.
- Support the implementation of the planned interventions by the geographic WASH teams, involving communities, partners and local authorities in the activities as appropriate.
- Systematically assess the quality of work and its impact, whether completed or not, and if necessary make changes to ensure that quality standards (national, WVI and Sphere in humanitarian contexts) are met.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Technical background in public health promotion and sanitation with a first or higher degree in a relevant subject (social development, health, or other applied discipline).
- Experience can substitute for qualifications but not vice versa.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in sanitation and behavior change projects and programmes in a development context, and preferably including some experience in humanitarian context.
- Substantial experience in CLTS is essential.
- Experience in working with local government authorities and communities.
- Good understanding and experience of the responsibilities of local government in relation to sanitation and behavior change in development and emergency contexts.
- Experience of appropriate methods to address public health needs and taking into consideration cross cutting issues such as gender and vulnerable groups.
- Understanding of gender and child protection issues.
- Ability to represent WV Somalia at WASH Cluster and other relevant meetings and fora.
- Diplomacy, tact, and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong negotiating skills to work with both local governmental representatives and local beneficiaries.
- Good written and spoken English is essential.
- Ability to present concise and clear reports and presentations at short notice addressing operational activities and needs/problems and related solutions/recommendations.
