World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Deputy Director General in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Deputy Director General reports directly to the Director-General and is responsible for keeping the Director General informed of all significant political, policy and technical developments of relevance.
The mission of WIPO is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property (IP) system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Deputy Director General will perform the following functions-
- Ensure good governance through the oversight of cost-effective use of all financial, human and other resources entrusted to the sector in keeping with WIPO regulations, rules, policies and based on approved human resource plans and work plans. Oversee program implementation against stated outcomes, indicators, targets and quality standards.
- Direct the efforts of the sector to ensure that key risks are identified, assessed and managed to contribute to the achievement of agreed results and that risk management is embedded in all core processes and functions.
- Promote and facilitate, in consultation with program directors, a harmonious working environment in which all their staff can discharge their professional responsibilities efficiently and to a high standard, ensuring agreed objectives are met. Ensure that managers and staff optimize the use of resources for the achievement of results and that they are held accountable for their performance.
- Provide advice and guidance on initiatives of political, strategic and operational importance to the Director General with particular emphasis on increased efficiency and effectiveness and a culture of cost consciousness throughout the Organization.
- Ensure the implementation of communication strategies consistent with WIPO’s communications policy and facilitate the coordinated flow of information within the sector, with other sectors, with Member States and other stakeholders.
- Ensure the full participation of the programs in enhancing WIPO’s knowledge base on key issues and themes of relevance, including in priority-setting, systematic and timely information collection, carrying out of relevant research and in policy monitoring and analysis.
- Represent the Director General and the Organization on high-level committees. Build effective partnerships with the United Nations and multilateral system to create and maintain the visibility of WIPO and to support policy coherence. Promote and manage relations with Member States and key stakeholders.
- Undertake other tasks and assignments as required to support the Director General in the delivery of the mandate and in the management of the Organization.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in a discipline related to WIPO’s work.
- Extensive and relevant professional experience from senior leadership/executive positions, including assignments at the regional and/or international level.
- Expertise in senior public administration, preferably in copyright and creative industries, and familiarization with its key issues at the practical and political level.
- High integrity, loyalty and maturity.
- Communicate effectively; cultivate productive working relationships and shows leadership across the Organization and stakeholders. Represent the Organization at the highest level.
- Demonstrated managerial skills.
- Mastery of English or French. Competence in another UN language is an advantage.
