Save the Children is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Deputy Director, International Programs. The position will be based in London, UK.
The Deputy Director IP is directly responsible for the management oversight of the IP Department program operations related staff and all related aspects of their operational work.
Save the Children International co-ordinates and supports the members efforts in achieving our goals.
Key Job Responsibilities
Deputy Director, IP will perform the following functions-
- Support the strategic development and delivery of international programming in line with Save the Children’s mandate, strategy and theory of change
- Contribute to the organisation’s drive to be relevant and fit for the future through harnessing the extraordinary engagement, diversity, talent and commitment of our people
- Create an environment of continuous learning where IP Department staff are encouraged and supported to grow and develop while willing to be held accountable for their commitments
- Ensure positive relations with SC regions and country offices while supporting their needs in the delivery of SC’s global program strategy, global initiatives and growth targets
- Maintain good relations with SC members and meeting their servicing requirements (and their donors) through a focus on customer service and collaborative working
- Ensuring that the focus of the organisation remains on the rights and needs of children
- Support the IP Director in maintaining the IP Department’s focus to successfully implement the 2030 global Ambition and 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, while also ensuring field level alignment.
- Lead and manage effectively the IP Department’s operations staff and ensure productive working relationships with the regional offices and country programs.
- Develop and maintain an organisational structure that best fits the needs of the department to meet its mission.
- Lead IP Department’s program quality efforts encompassing program operations, systems and quality related tasks in support of strengthening regional and country level programming.
- Guide departmental efforts involving Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) efforts to position SCI to clearly communicate accomplishments to key stakeholders
- Support program learning and information management within the IP Department while linking effectively with the Global Initiatives and SC members
- Coordinate closely with the Humanitarian Director on related program quality efforts that position SCI as the leading global child-focused humanitarian response agency.
- Participate in Quarterly Reviews and semi-annual Finance & Compliance Committee meetings with the centre/regional teams.
- Coordinate with Global Assurance on region and country audits (financial reviews) and assist in monitoring action plans to address findings.
- Collaborate closely with GPDs and their senior staff as needed to address issues of importance relating to program quality & operations
- Participate in the GPD Meetings, both face to face and teleconference related, as requested by the IP Director
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in international development or a related discipline
- Significant senior level leadership and management experience in a large and complex international NGO or organization
- Significant experience managing field operations, across the full spectrum of programming from humanitarian assistance to development, with an understanding also of institutional needs supportive of the global mission
- Robust experience in developing and implementing organisational vision and strategies
- Experience in building personal networks at senior levels and across departments resulting in constructive responses to organisational needs
- Proven ability to manage cross-cultural teams and skills in facilitation, dispute resolution and coaching
- Established management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
- Experience in solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage productive relationships with SC member agencies
- Models international development best practices, and the leadership behaviours outlined in SC’s strategy
- Strong and clear commitment to Save the Children’s values
- Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of major events & crises, including travelling at short notice
