Room to Read is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Development Director based in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.
The Development Director will be responsible for the overall regional fundraising strategy with regard to individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Development Director will perform the following functions-
- Lead and manage a team in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo to rise more than USD 10 million annually. Provide management and leadership to the Asia Pacific development team consisting of six full-time staff (three in Hong Kong, two in Tokyo and one in Singapore) whose collective primary responsibilities include liaising with donors and soliciting donations, maintaining accurate donor records, financial management, coordinating with local volunteer chapters and representing Room to Read in the region.
- Establish and monitor revenue goals for all areas of development in the Asia Pacific region.
- Support the Co-Founders, Executive Staff and Asia Pacific Development Board as they represent Room to Read to various constituencies.
- Manage a portfolio of relationships with high-level donors in the region with a goal of raising a minimum of USD 3+ million annually.
- Demonstrated ability to raised funds in the range of USD 2.5 – 3 million annually. If not a non-profit fundraiser, has raised the equivalent or more in the private sector.
- Experience independently raising six and seven figure gifts.
- Experience working with Boards to raise six and seven figure gifts.
- Demonstrated ability to work with both expats and local Asia Pacific donors.
- Capable of managing fundraising and staff in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan with potential for additional markets in the future.
- Represent Room to Read at various fundraising events and in donor cultivation meetings.
- Manage the Asia Pacific Development Board in collaboration with Executive Staff.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the volunteer chapters in the region and serve on the major fundraising event committees.
- Serve as a member of the Development Department’s senior leadership team and provide input to the Global Office on donor communications, strategy, and reporting for Asia Pacific.
- Conduct research on individuals, corporations, and family foundations with the goal of uncovering new prospects in the region.
- Provide guidance and participate in donor solicitation in select Emerging Markets across Asia Pacific in partnership with the Global Business Development team.
- Ensure that donor records are accurate within Development Department databases (Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce.com as appropriate).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 7 to 10 years work experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization with at least 2 years of nonprofit development experience.
- Work experience in Asia, Hong Kong preferred.
- History of dedicated volunteer activity and/or commitment to nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute major gift activities.
- Positive initiative and mature judgment.
- Highly organized and self-motivated.
- Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills in English.
- Ability to travel 20-25% of the time internationally, primarily in the Asia Pacific region.
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Experience living or working internationally is a plus.
- Hong Kong working visa is a plus.
- Be an innovative and creative thinker.
- Very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.
- Strong work ethic and require minimal direction.
- Work well independently as well as part of a team.
