Human Rights Watch (HRW) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Director in London, United Kingdom.
The Director will oversee the London Committee as well as the Development and Outreach team in London; help grow philanthropic support for the organization by cultivating and directly soliciting major gift contributions; manage HRW’s expanding constituency; and promote HRW’s advocacy initiatives to local audiences.
HRW defends the rights of people worldwide, and scrupulously investigates abuses, expose the facts widely, and pressure those with power to respect rights and secure justice.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Director will perform the following functions-
- Building financial support for the organization by soliciting major gifts and general support funds from supporters.
- Researching, identifying, cultivating, servicing and soliciting new prospects, existing donors, and London Committee members.
- Servicing HRW International Board members located in London.
- Overseeing the London Executive Committee, and the London Committee sub committees (Annual Dinner, Benefit Gala, Cries from the Heart, Fundraising, Globalisation & Outreach, Advocacy, Communications, Membership & Leadership, London Network) and other outreach initiatives including Committee meetings, researcher briefings, advocacy events, and cultivation events.
- Overseeing the production of fundraising, outreach and cultivation events.
- Communicating the work of HRW to existing and prospective supporters.
- Creating and tracking donor lists, fundraising, and expenses.
- Setting the strategy for and supervising the Development and Outreach team in the London office.
- Act as the administrator for the Human Rights Watch Charitable Trust; and.
- Other tasks as may be required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree in human rights or philanthropy is desired.
- Minimum of seven years of fundraising experience is preferred.
- Significant fundraising experience, with proven success in creating and managing major gifts programs and highly skilled at managing high-level donor relationships.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing large fundraising events, such as the annual dinner, as well as smaller house parties.
- Familiarity with fundraising in London is highly desirable.
- An entrepreneurial and disciplined self-starter who can work independently, but also function as a member of a development team.
- Strong public speaking, oral and written communications skills in English.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW.
