The Oceana is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Director, Donor Relations and Events based in New York, USA.
The Director for Donor Relations and Events is a senior member of Oceana’s fundraising team, who directs the Ocean Council, manages a portfolio of major gifts donors and prospects, and leads the fundraising efforts for Oceana’s annual NYC Gala.
Oceana seeks to make the oceans more biodiverse and abundant by winning policy victories in the countries that govern much of the world’s marine life.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Director, Donor Relations and Events performs the following functions-
- Works with the VP for Development to increase revenue from existing and new major gifts donors.
- Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of mainly east coast-based major gifts donors and prospects.
- Manages the execution of major gifts stewardship strategies for the Chief Executive Officer, President, the Board of Directors, and senior staff members.
- Regularly updates the VP for Development, President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Executive Officer on yearly major gifts donors and prospects comparisons.
- Plans and implements all aspects of Oceana’s annual NYC Gala and high-touch events principally along the east coast.
- Manages one to two annual receptions in conjunction with Oceana’s Board of Directors meetings.
- Oversees the fundraising efforts of the NYC benefit and works with the VP for Development, Senior VP for Marketing and Communications, Chief Executive Officer, and President to identify, cultivate and solicit event leadership, donors, and/or corporate sponsors.
- Fosters working partnerships with and serves as the main contact for benefit Co-Chairs and volunteer committee members.
- Coordinates all event production and other aspects of events, including soliciting and acquiring items for auctions and gift bags.
- Drafts all event-related correspondence, including solicitation letters, invitation and program text, acknowledgements, and other correspondence.
- Collaborate with Oceana’s Marketing and Communications team on all press releases and related media for public events.
- Oversees all event printing and solicitation materials, works with in-house and outside design professionals to develop electronic and printed materials for Save the Date, invitations, programs, websites and other marketing and promotional items.
- Manages the Ocean Council, a select group of supporters who represent Oceana on the global stage.
- Serves as a member of Oceana’s senior leadership Development team.
- Works in conjunction with the VP for Development in coordinating team workflow and priorities.
- Works cooperatively with Oceana staff across the institution.
- Develops metrics to monitor team performance against goals. Ensures that fundraising actions are tracked and recorded in Oceana’s fundraising database.
- Represents Oceana at organizational and external events as appropriate. This includes donor and prospect meetings, cultivation events, dinners and galas, professional industry gatherings, and speaking engagements.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in donor relations and special events
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Rigorous attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of databases.
- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Ability to work with diplomacy and tact at all times.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent donor/prospect relationship skills.
- Must be willing to accept varied workload, including travel and working outside of normal work-week hours.
- Must have strong financial management experience.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work graciously in a fast paced environment.
- Knowledge of environmental issues and the non-profit community.
