The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Executive Director based in Belgium.
The Executive Director leads a small Secretariat to develop and structure the GFMD as a global network of media development organizations with a reputation for quality, innovation and influence.
The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) is an international membership network of media assistance groups that highlights the importance of independent, pluralistic and sustainable media in social and economic development.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Executive Director will perform the following functions-
- Plan, lobby and fundraise for appropriate funding for GFMD to run the secretariat as well as joint activities with regional fora and members;
- Plan, fundraise and develop the World Forum in 2016. This includes providing overall leadership, forming the planning team for the conference, and ensuring successful implementation of all conference-related activities;
- Provide guidance to the GFMD Coordinator and the GFMD secretariat team;
- In coordination with the steering committee, develop the annual work plan and budget for GFMD;
- Track and manage the annual budget, with regular reporting to the GFMD board.
- Direct the activities of GFMD staff and team to successfully achieve the goals developed in conjunction with the steering committee.
- Represent GFMD and the media sector among media development donors, international (governmental) organizations, NGOs and the research community.
- Recruit new members to the GFMD from around the world, and ensure all members are up-to date on their dues.
- Plan bi-annual board meetings (one in person; one by phone). Prepare financial and programmatic reports for both meetings.
- Plan ad-hoc meetings of the board and committees, as necessary.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- 15+ years programmatic experience or relevant advanced degree
- Experience in developing or supporting international programs
- Leadership and Senior management experience
- Successful proposal writing and core fundraising experience
- Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication skills
