Key Job Responsibilities
The Head of Funding will perform the following functions-
- Facilitate and inspire creative and progressive fundraising strategies in line with the organisation’s changing needs and rolling three year strategic plan, ensuring strategies reflect opportunities from established and critically, new innovative income streams.
- Lead, inspire and manage the fundraising team so that they are fully supported to deliver organisational and team objectives, and facilitated as key members of project management teams.
- Maintain an up to date understanding of the content, scope, narrative and changes around Saferworld’s work through strategic linkages with key project and core function teams across the organisation.
- Effectively manage key donor relationships, focusing on Saferworld’s major funders.
- Undertake highlevel representation for Saferworld, especially with donors and potential funders.
- Strengthen and oversee processes for developing content and the quality of proposals and provide leadership and technical support – especially when major funding proposals are undertaken.
- Ensure Saferworld’s Funding Protocols and relevant procedures are followed.
- Proactively manage the organisational pipeline of project ideas and developed submissions. Provide data reports that track progress and provide critical analysis of current and future trends. Develop and maintain systems to capture progress along the project cycle from planning to project impact and learning.
- Produce regular analysis on funding performance: lead the process of capturing lessons from the implementation of funding strategies and analyse the relative effectiveness of various fundraising methods, reallocating resources accordingly.
- Contribute actively to the design and implementation of Saferworld’s monitoring and evaluation systems, ensuring evidence, lessons and outcomes are communicated in a manner appropriate for fundraising aims.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Knowledge and understanding of the peace building sector is desirable;
- An appropriate qualification at degree level or equivalent in a related field (such as international relations, political science, marketing and communication, etc.) is desirable;
- Five years, senior experience working in a fundraising environment with an international organisation;
- Experience of managing a fundraising team and developing staff at all levels;
- Experience of developing and delivering on fundraising strategies, ideally relating to the peace building sector;
- A track record of leading on donor liaison and completing successful applications to a range of funders;
- Experience of designing and accessing new collaborators and funders;
- A creative and proactive approach to all areas of work and a commitment to delivering high quality standard;
- Strong ‘team working’ orientation with excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work collaboratively and motivate staff and colleagues;
- An ability to plan, balance and cope with competing priorities;
- High level communication and presentation skills, including experience of communicating effectively across cultures and with diverse audiences;
- Excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills;
- Excellent written and spoken English, and preferably of another major international language.
