International Organization for Migration (IOM) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Officer in Gaborone, Botswana. The duration for the post is of 6 months.
The Programme Officer will support the implementation and development of projects in the area of mixed / irregular migration, border management, labour migration and protection of vulnerable migrants and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) in Botswana.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Programme Officer will perform the following functions-
- In coordination with the Regional Policy and Liaison Officer (RPLO) in RO Pretoria, facilitate regular Liaison with the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) based in Botswana.
- Support the implementation of project activities of the Mixed and Irregular Migration project, Camp Management and Camp Coordination (CCCM) and Disaster Risk Management, UKTB project, USRAP and the IDF-funded project focused on the development of a Migration Policy for Botswana.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining working relations with government entities, local authorities, implementing partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders as relevant to the projects and activities of the thematic areas.
- Actively participate in monitoring of projects including expenditures and financial reports with the aim of attaining effective management and adequate burn rate. Act as the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and reporting focal point for the mission.
- Contribute to the project development efforts for the continuation of existing projects as well as new projects in the related field.
- Undertake duty travel relating to project/programme assessment, liaison with counterparts, problem solving, and new project/programme development, as required.
- Support the coordination of the missions’ existing and future activities with other IOM activities to achieve complementarily and synergies, including, but not limited to, trainings, workshops, and awareness-raising and information campaigns.
- Represent IOM and participate at appropriate levels in conferences, workshops, trainings and various forums on issues related to migration.
- Supervise the work of project staff.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in Political or Social Science, Business Administration, International Relations and/or Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.
- University degree in the above fields with four years relevant professional
- Experience in programme formulation, implementation and evaluation concepts and procedures.
- Experience in project development and administration.
- Experience in managing projects operating in multiple locations.
- Experience in liaising with Regional Economic Communities (RECs); Government authorities, other national/international institutions and donors.
- Experience in organizing regional and national consultative meetings.
- Experience in liaising and working with NGOs, civil society organizations and UN
- Knowledge of social and development issues as well as general migration related issues.
- Knowledge and/or experience in Migrant Assistance migration.
- Working experience in the region is an advantage.
- Fluency in English is required.
