The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Gender Specialist in Washington DC, United States.
The Senior Gender Specialist is expected to provide support, tools and guidance for mainstreaming gender more effectively in GEF projects, policies, and activities.
WBG has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Gender Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Coordinate the work of the staff of the PPO Gender and Social work stream, including leading the preparation and implementation of the annual work program and associated budget.
- Assess and review capacity of the GEF Secretariat in implementing the GEAP and addressing gender equality issues, and propose appropriate measures, including training opportunities to strengthen staff capacities to mainstream gender at the GEF.
- Coordinate the GEF Gender Partnership among the GEF Agencies and relevant partners and organize regular meetings to effectively contribute to GEFSEC’s and the respective partner organization’s efforts to mainstream gender, and to coordinate the implementation of agreed activities in line with the GEAP.
- Support raising awareness and capacity of the GEF Operational Focal points, Conventions Focal points and other partners in incorporating gender equality and women’s empowerment issues in GEF programs and projects.
- Provide guidance and support to implement mainstreaming gender in project cycle management processes and procedures (e.g. gender analysis, gender responsive project framework, etc.).
- Provide input and technical guidance to build gender responsive programs/projects, policies, guidelines, and related GEF Council papers.
- Develop a gender-responsive results based management system (RBM) in close coordination with the RBM work stream, including development of effective monitoring, tracking, and reporting system of the GEF-6 core gender indicators at focal area and corporate levels.
- Develop and coordinate knowledge products related to gender in line with the GEF strategy on knowledge management.
- Foster outreaching and increase visibility on GEFSEC’s work on gender mainstreaming.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A Master’s Degree in Sociology, Anthropology or related social sciences and 8 years of relevant experience working on gender mainstreaming at the institutional and project levels, including project management, knowledge generation, and results based management.
- Solid background in gender and social inclusion and at least 2 of the following social development competencies – social analysis (socio-political analysis, participatory research, social impact analysis, institutional analysis, quantitative analysis), community driven development (incl. community mobilization and empowerment), fragility and conflict.
- Proven capacity to translate analytical work into policy advice and operational, actionable, recommendations.
- Expertise in gender aspects of global environmental issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience on different gender responsive tools and approaches, and applying them effectively at institutional and project levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with networks in the gender, development, and environment fields.
- Proven communication and facilitation skills with varied stakeholders and audiences.
- Excellent skills in teamwork and consensus-building/partnership-building in a multi-cultural setting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
