Open Society Foundations (OSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Policy Advisor in Washington DC, United States.
The OSF works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Policy Advisor will perform the following functions-
- Conduct policy analysis and U.S. government advocacy on priorities determined in collaboration with the OSF Africa network.
- Analyze legislative and executive initiatives and develop advocacy strategies to influence them.
- Research and write a diverse range of documents, including issue briefs, reports, articles, memos and summaries, in collaboration with the OSF network.
- Regularly distribute information and updates on Africa related U.S. government policy to the Africa advocacy community and wider OSF network.
- Maintain excellent relationships with U.S. government contacts.
- Facilitate U.S. government advocacy visits for Africa Foundation staff, grantees and partners.
- Support the Africa foundations in developing and implementing international advocacy strategies.
- Travel between Washington, D.C., and New York occasionally, Travel to Africa or other international destinations 4-6 times a year.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in the social sciences, law degree, or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
- Seven to ten years of related work experience.
- Experience working in an advocacy capacity in multilateral or governmental structures.
- Direct knowledge and experience with African affairs and travel in Africa.
- Experience working in or with U.S. government.
- Experience working with NGOs, foundations or development agencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in face to face exchanges, public speaking and writing of diverse materials.
- Ability to work under pressure and as a team member.
- Fluency in English; familiarity with African languages, French or Portuguese preferable.
- Ability to travel in the U.S. and abroad is essential.
