Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Policy Manager in Washington DC, United States.
The Senior Policy Manager will be responsible for achieving policy goals by working with U.S. Department of Agriculture agencies, such as the Risk Management Agency and Natural Resource Conservation Service, and by leveraging opportunities in Congress (appropriations and Farm Bill).

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Policy Manager will perform the following functions-
- Provide specific substantive, leadership and advisory roles across policy issues related to Sustainable Agriculture, including federal agricultural policy, carbon markets, conservation finance, and other policy and political issues as defined by Sustainable Agriculture and Policy leadership.
- Identify near-term leverage points and opportunities in the federal and relevant state policy and political landscapes.
- Map pathways and strategies for improving current agriculture policy and enabling supply chain partners to meet sustainability goals.
- Develop, implement and oversee targeted strategies for developing and gaining consensus among key decision makers and thought leaders on policy prescriptions for achieving Sustainable Agriculture policy goals.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of ongoing relationships with regulators and agency staff, as well as Congressional staff.
- Advise Sustainable Agriculture leadership and team on any policy related issues, as needed.
- Support Director, Senior Director, and AVP of Sustainable Agriculture in development of policy and communications strategy.
- Contribute to development of earned media, collateral documents, presentations, and other outreach materials.
- Contribute, in concert with the Policy team and Sustainable Ag Director/Senior Director/AVP, to coordination of Sustainable Ag policy with policy of other intersecting EDF Programs.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Graduate degree, or equivalent work experience, in science, policy, economics or law in areas related to the environment and/or agriculture.
- Minimum of six years’ experience working to affect change in policy issues or regulatory processes, including a demonstrated history of success in achieving environmental and/or agricultural policy reforms.
- Experience with legislative and regulatory structures, and solid understanding of the political dynamics surrounding agricultural policy and the related political context.
- Understanding of federal policy making and political processes.
- Demonstrated people and project management skills.
- Demonstrated analytic skills and ability to perform rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills with the ability to garner consensus between disparate groups with conflicting priorities.
- Ability to recognize and build on market and strategic opportunities for progress.
- Capability of working with a variety of stakeholders and within strategic coalitions.
- A self-starter with the ability to think strategically.
