United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Regional Education Advisor in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Senior Regional Education Advisor will provide strategic guidance, advice and operational support for UNHCR regarding education and advocate on all issues related to UNHCR education programmes and strategic directions.
UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Regional Education Advisor will perform the following functions-
- Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments in the regional and globally that have an impact on access to and quality of education and provide advice to senior management.
- Support senior management in the region to expand national and regional level partnerships with government counterparts, UN agencies, partners and persons of concern to develop national education plans in the context of SDG 4, with a focus on sustained access to quality education.
- Ensure that the national education plans include the needs of women and men, children, youth, persons with disabilities, minority groups such as sexual minorities and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
- Ensure that the education priorities are fully integrated into the Country Operations Plans and the UN Development and Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
- Actively support mainstreaming within national education systems, including coordination on education provision for refugee and host communities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in Education or Social Sciences with a minimum of 10 years of job experiences relevant to the function of which at least 5 in an international capacity managing education projects in a humanitarian or development context.
- Background in relevant education systems with good knowledge of relevant curricula.
- Field experience in programme implementation and coordination.
- Knowledge of refugee protection principles and framework.
- Familiarity with INEE standards.
- Excellent English (drafting and presentation skills).
