Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Technical Advisor for Nutrition in Baltimore, US.
The Senior Technical Advisor for Nutrition will contribute to the advancement of CRS work and leadership in the field of nutrition.
CRS carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Technical Advisor for Nutrition will perform the following functions-
- Assist headquarters, regional and country program staff to effectively engage with governments, partners (faith-based and secular) and donors to increase influence in nutrition programming and support donor diversification.
- Support headquarters, regional and country program staff to pre-position for strategic nutrition growth opportunities.
- Design, write, review and contribute to new project proposals to ensure responsiveness, technical excellence, incorporation of agency approaches and alignment with national nutrition policies.
- Identify technical assistance needs and ensure timely execution of technical assistance services.
- Develop and advance agency standards, approaches, guidelines and best practices around nutrition.
- Identify and share professional development opportunities with relevant staff.
- Train and mentor regional colleagues, country program teams and partners in standard CRS tools and products.
- Support a CRS nutrition community of practice.
- Support the design and development of implementation research to advance CRS’ work in nutrition.
- Develop nutrition-related content for materials to support discussions with peer and donor organizations.
- Participate in mid-term and final project reviews/evaluations.
- Represent the agency to donors at the highest levels; contribute to relevant information management systems.
- Prepare abstracts for conferences and assist country programs in preparing their abstracts.
- Attend strategic conferences, preferably as a presenter of CRS work.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced degree in nutrition, public health or health-related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience working in global health with 5 years overseas in multiple regions, as a technical advisor and/or program manager of a nutrition and/or multi-sectoral project with a nutrition component.
- Deep understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the nutrition field.
- Track record of successful business development with proven ability of capturing public and private donor funding and partners (e.g., Bureau of Food Security, USAID Global Health, DFID, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Private Sector).
- Expertise in the development and production of curricula, tools, and products to support nutrition interventions and programming.
- Knowledge of gender-responsive programming and how it relates to nutrition.
- Experience working with local partners – government, faith-based and civil society.
- Experience with program monitoring including development of indicators, data collection tools and methodologies, data analysis, and data presentation.
- Examples of technical and/or academic publications highly desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Excellent organizational and planning skills; self-motivated and able to work under pressure.

- Proven ability to utilize the Internet to research, communicate and participate in knowledge-sharing networks.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets and budgeting.
- Normal conditions akin to office environment; based in Baltimore at CRS Headquarters.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and at short notice 30% of the time.
- Fluency in English (FSI S/R 5). Professional proficiency in French (FSI S/R 3).
