The Saferworld organisation is currently accepting applications from the eligible individuals for the post of Adviser, Participatory Governance Programme, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Adviser, Participatory Governance Programme will provide technical input, particularly related to supporting electoral processes, to the Participatory Governance and Peace Programme funded by DANIDA.
Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Adviser, Participatory Governance Programme will perform the following functions-
- In collaboration with the Project Manager and others, regularly analyse the political context in Somalia/land and in the international community to identify issues the PGP program should address.
- Provide training and build the capacity of Electoral Commissions in Somalia.
- Provide technical advisory services to Electoral Commissions.
- Capacity development of and support to selected civil society organisations with experience of conducting analysis and research in the area of promotion of participatory and democratic governance, peace building and electoral processes, including identification of the needs and priorities of local communities and people.
- Capacity development and support to duty bearers such as relevant ministries, government institutions and local administrations in the area of administration of inclusive electoral processes encompassing the entire electoral cycle.
- Capacity development targeting selected duty bearers such as relevant ministries, government institutions and local administrations particularly in the area of administration of inclusive electoral processes encompassing the entire electoral cycle.
- Support to awareness raising of rights holders, through the strengthening of civil society actors through civil education and outreach particularly at the local level with a particular focus on vulnerable groups and by applying a gender sensitive perspective, in the areas of democratic governance, electoral processes and peacebuilding.
- Provide financial and project management support to local civil society organisations in promoting events of peace building, conflict prevention and reconciliation and democratic governance including electoral processes.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience
- Familiarity with Danida Aid Management Guidelines or similar.
- Work experience from both a developing context and from (a) OECD countr(y)ies.
- A minimum of 5 years relevant programme management experience in a developing context.
- Solid professional experience within the field of peacebuilding and democratic governance including electoral processes and civil society engagement
- Experience of enhancing and improving the situation of women and gender equality
- Experience of working on peace building, governance and democratization and capacity development in the Horn of Africa
- Experience of working with government and non-government stakeholders on good governance, peace building and democratisation.
- Experience with legal and regulatory frameworks for electoral processes covering the entire election cycle
- Solid work experience from the East Africa region, preferably the Horn of Africa
