Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Policy Officer in Karachi, Pakistan. The duration for the post is of 1 year.
The Policy Officer works under the direct supervision of FAO Representative and technical guidance of FIRST Senior Technical Advisor (ESA).
FAO promotes good practice in addressing governance challenges across its Strategic Objectives by strengthening its contribution to global governance, identifying mission-critical governance issues at national, regional and multilateral levels.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Policy Officer performs the following functions-
- Prepares and refines the FIRST Operational Work Plan in collaboration with Government of Sindh counterparts, FAO Country Office, EU Delegation in Pakistan and other relevant stakeholders, and regularly reports on progress and implementation.
- Organizes and leads in-depth assessments of the policy and institutional frameworks, intervention mapping and information management for FNSSA in Pakistan. Analyses province and country specific requirements, human resource and organizational capacity gaps and identifies areas for improvements through the in-depth assessment.
- Supports the Government of Sindh in overseeing the development of related capacity building materials; and promote synergy among the existing agriculture and FSN information management system at the provincial and national levels.
- Provides assistance to the Government of Sindh in the FNSSA sector by 1) contributing to meetings, workshops and seminars related to FNSSA at the provincial and national level, 2) organizing and contributing to meetings and conferences around FNSSA to promote evidence-based policy dialogue and develop effective working relationships/consensus with international and national partners, and 3) participating in resource mobilization activities for policy implementation and capacity buildings within the country.
- Provides assistance as requested from the Government of Sindh and approved by the FAO to contribute to deepening the FNSSA context in Sindh.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in agricultural, food security, development economics, sustainable agriculture or a related field.
- Seven years of relevant experience in food security and nutrition and/or sustainable agriculture and rural development policy analysis, research and advocacy including policy assistance and capacity development.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) Work experience in more than one location or areas of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
- Extent and relevance of experience in providing policy assistance and technical guidance in the context of a food security, nutrition and/or sustainable agriculture programmes.
- Extent and relevance of experience in facilitating policy dialogue and capacity development around food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture among a wide variety of stakeholders.
