The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economist in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The Economist will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Kabul-based Afghanistan Lead Country Economist.
WBG has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Economist will perform the following functions-
- Monitor developments in the economy, undertake research and analysis on macro-fiscal, financial and country issues and work closely across sectors to have a comprehensive view of the economy.
- Prepare and update medium-term macroeconomic projections regularly. Use/run economic/financial models and toolkits using existing software packages, or the World Bank’s own models.
- Collect and analyze data as well as participate in exchange of information with Government, private sector officials and other international financial institutions.
- Participate in the design, preparation and implementation of budget support and capacity building operations.
- Participate in the design, preparation and dissemination of analytical economic work and reporting on Afghanistan, including country economic updates.
- Understand client needs and development challenges and identify entry points for Bank assistance and generate demand for Bank’s engagement.
- Promote visibility for Bank products; and.
- Develop and maintain active engagement with other development partners and local think tanks and researchers.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in economics, with five years of experience. D. candidates preferred.
- Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, and leadership qualities, as well as effective teamwork skills.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively and to present ideas clearly and concisely with senior policy officials.
- Strong integrative capacities; i.e., ability to situate economic policy related activities within a broader strategic development framework; and.
- Excellent knowledge of English is essential.
- Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto strongly preferred.
