Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Food and Nutrition Security Policy Officer in Fiji.
The Food and Nutrition Security Policy Officer will work under direct supervision of the SAP Policy Officer (PO) and under the overall guidance of the FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator for the Pacific (SRC), and receives technical guidance from the FIRST Senior Technical Adviser (ESA).
FAO promotes good practice in addressing governance challenges across its Strategic Objectives by strengthening its contribution to global governance, identifying mission-critical governance issues at national, regional and multilateral levels.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Food and Nutrition Security Policy Officer performs the following functions-
- Analyses global and country specific requirements, organize and lead an in-depth assessment of the policy and institutional framework of Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA), and identify areas for improvements.
- Provides technical and policy advice and support to the Governments in the three (3) participating countries in the development and implementation of their policies and programmes in ways that will accelerate and maximize their impact on FNSSA.
- Plans, organizes and participates in capacity development activities contributing to strengthening the enabling environment for FSSNA.
- Provides advice and technical assistance through training workshops, seminars, and meetings as well as oversee the development of related materials, on-line tools and information kits.
- Provides and manages short and long-term consultants and in-country technical assistance required to achieve the project objectives.
- Works closely with other existing initiatives in the Pacific agriculture policy space, including the Pacific Agriculture & Forestry Policy Network (PAFPnet) and the Pacific Agricultural Policy Project (PAPP) Steering Committee.
- Leads and/or participates in resource mobilization activities.
- Prepares reports to FAO, European Union and the Governments of the three (3) participating countries, on progress achieved and issues related to FIRST implementation.
- Perform other duties as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in agricultural economics, development economics, food security and nutrition and/or sustainable agriculture or a related field.
- Seven years of relevant experience in food security and nutrition and/or agriculture and rural development policy analysis, including policy assistance and capacity development.
- Experience of working on food and nutrition security or agricultural development in one or more Pacific Island Countries.
- Excellent working knowledge of English.
