United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Nutrition Officer in Somalia.
The Nutrition Officer will be responsible to ensure effective nutrition information management, analysis and coordination support for effective strategic decisions on the impact of the response.
UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Nutrition Officer performs the following functions-
- Provides administrative support and coordination follow up to national and sub-national cluster coordination mechanisms at all level.
- Provides training on data collection, analysis and management to government counterparts and cluster partners on a regular basis.
- Map out; maintain information on all current and potential cluster partners, their capacities and areas of work.
- Provide programme information for the production of nutrition cluster advocacy materials.
- Ensures that the planning function of the cluster has quality information to assess progress towards expected periodic results on a regular basis.
- Work with cluster partners to have a well-prioritized plan of Information Management activities that provide all the relevant and strategic information needed to manage the cluster activities, and achievement of cluster targets.
- Regularly share cluster information with partners and relevant stakeholders as necessary.
- Maintain and adapt agreed simple nutrition programme reporting formats and collate all the data provided by partners into a database, desegregated by gender, age, region on a regular basis.
- Coordinate with other cluster information managers for complementarily and cross-cluster analysis of information on the emergency programmes.
- Share with partners on a monthly basis the collated country/region/partner-wide nutrition statistics against agreed performance indicators.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- University degree in Nutrition, public Health or relevant related field, or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant professional work experience of at least two years in coordination.
- Demonstrated professional technical expertise in nutrition in emergencies, early recovery and post-crisis transition.
- Formal training in cluster co-ordination and/or demonstrable experience of effective high level co-ordination and chairing of meetings.
- Excellent advocacy skills particularly in relation to advocating for nutrition provision in humanitarian crises.
- Demonstrated understanding of international humanitarian response architecture, co-ordination mechanisms, humanitarian reform and action.
- Understanding of the humanitarian funding mechanisms including (i.e. Consolidated Appeals Process, Central.
- Emergency Response Fund and Flash Appeals).
- Experience in the region of deployment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
