The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Nutrition Specialist, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Nutrition Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Ensures the preparation of the Situation Analysis related to Nutrition programs and its periodic update.
- Contributes to sectoral input to the Country Programme documents and all related documents, (e.g., Plan of Operations, Project Plans of Action, Country Programme Summary Sheet (CPSS), Programme Summary Sheet (PSS)), for assigned programmes/projects.
- Work as a key technical expert with federal and regional DRMFSS, Food Security/DPP Bureau, Ministry of Health to identify and select relevant and timely data and information on early warning and programme nutrition indicators.
- Continuous consultations and review with UNICEF Programme Sections linked to both Nutrition & Food Security Section office-wide disaster preparedness and response strategies.
- Providing technical support to relevant national guidelines and documents.
- Manage supply pipelines.
- Providing inputs to key relevant documents, situation analyses and programme inputs.
- Provide support to disaster preparedness/ response and other nutrition emergency activities particularly those related to emergency appeals, sectoral offices non-food contingency planning/responses and transition programs.
- Participate in joint Government/UN special assessments of disaster areas where acute threats to the wellbeing of children and women exist.
- Reviews and evaluates the technical, institutional and financial feasibility and constraints of early warning and nutrition information system in coordination and collaboration with government and other partners.
- Participates in the formulation and development of the nutrition programme goals, strategies and approaches for the UNICEF country programme.
- Provides technical support to government and sub-offices for monitoring of programmes.
- Plans, implements and monitors the nutrition activities.
- Undertake follow-up action on programme implementation activities, ensure the timely delivery of cash and supply assistance and prepare relevant reports.
- Update and revise programme work as required.
- Monitor the appropriate and effective use of funds and ensure liquidation of advances.
- Plan and undertake frequent field visits to review UNICEF assisted early warning and nutrition information system project activities, assess local conditions and resources, and monitor UNICEF inputs.
- Communicate with federal and regional counterparts on project effectiveness.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in Nutrition, Public Health or a related technical field.
- A first university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.
- Eight years progressively responsible professional work experience at the national and international levels in nutrition programme planning, management, monitoring, evaluation and emergency.
- Fluency in English and another UN language required.
- Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
