The International Development Research Center (IDRC) is currently seeking applications from the eligibl applicants for the post of Senior Program Officer- Agriculture and Food Security, based in Ottawa, Canada.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Senior Program Officer will perform the following functions-
- Under the supervision of the PL develops, monitors, manages, and evaluates research projects;
- With guidance from PL takes the lead for a portfolio of Project Initiative (PI) projects in the range of 10-20 projects and Research Support Projects (RSPs) values up to $5-7 million;
- Liaises with program colleagues in Ottawa and the regional offices on issues of project development and management;
- Plays a role in the identifying, developing and managing IDRC’s contacts with other international agencies and Canadian institutions;
- Contributes to Centre-wide public relations efforts and to knowledge dissemination and utilization, including participation in IDRC, public and scientific fora;
- Identifies the external contacts to support specific program directions and projects;
- Identifies donors for revenue generation; and
- Participates in team meetings.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A record of research and publication in an area of applied research related to agriculture and/ or food security in a developing region of the world, with a PhD. in a relevant discipline associated with agriculture and food security such as agronomy, agricultural economics, food sciences and agricultural engineering.
- Five to eight years and a track record that includes:
- Managing research in the agri-food sector in international settings, from project design to project implementation;
- Leading, conducting applied field research in agriculture and/or food systems in the developed and developing world;
- Communicating research results to diverse audiences at national and international levels, and developing links with researchers and policy makers to increase the use of research for policy development; and
- Some experience in project Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Bilingual position (English/French) at an intermediate level;
- Contribution of different components of food systems to food security and nutrition in developing countries;
- Knowledge of private and public organizations and institutions working on agricultural and food security research; and
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and approaches, including strategies for stimulating uptake of research results by research users.
