The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Child Protection Specialist, based in Amman, Jordan.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Child Protection Specialist performs the following functions-
- Timely child protection analysis focusing on asylum seekers living in camp or off camps settings, input, support and collaboration to the Jordan office Situation Analysis and its weekly update made for effective programme planning, development and management. Gender/sex disaggregated data and inputs relevant to the UNICEF Child Protection programme provided as well as inputs to Sitreps and daily updates;
- Development of partnership agreements, where applicable, effectively promoted through dialogue with new and existing UNICEF Child Protection partners (including national and international NGOs), taking into account existing frameworks such as the UNICEF Annual Work Plan, Jordan Response Plan/3RP, Child Protection Minimum Standards and UNICFE’s Core Commitment for Children in Humanitarian context;
- Develop and/or support systems for and coordination of identification and documentation of unaccompanied and separated children, including through reception and registration processes for newly arriving asylum seekers/refugees to camps and in remote areas of Jordan, including Rapid IDTVTR where required (e.g. during rapid influxes);
- Identify opportunities to work with other sectors to strengthen overall protection for unaccompanied and separated children and survivors of gender based violence by integrating protection activities within their emergency response programs;
- Directly manage the case of child protection and gender based violence if needed;
- On-going training, coaching, mentoring and capacity building of protection and non-protection partners;
- Activities are formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined programme monitoring and evaluation systems, strategies and approaches with respect to child protection, gender based violence and psychosocial interventions in particular;
- Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key child protection sectoral programme documents and reports pertaining to UNICEF interventions, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and knowledge/information exchange;
- Work towards establishing guidelines and procedures, with due attention paid to early identification, management and timely referral of child protection cases and gender based violence to relevant authorities, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations;
- Quality of rights-based child protection programmes effectively promoted. Coherence, synergy and value added to programme management process through results-based management.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An Advanced University degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law and other social science field is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in child protection, psychosocial interventions and/or other related areas at the international level some of which preferably were served in a developing country as required.
- Relevant experience in child protection and related areas, program/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization is an asset.
- Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage
- Previous UNICEF experience and knowledge of UNICEF processes and procedures is an asset
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language and/or knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Prior experience of working in emergency situation on child protection
- Familiarity with issues affecting children and women in emergencies
- Current knowledge of development issues, policies as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.
- Knowledge of the latest developments and technology in related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
- Ability to work through networking and with partnership
- Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
- Good writing and editing skills.
- Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications.
