The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Coordinator – Saker Falcon Global Action Plan. This is a consultancy contract and work will be done remotely.
The Coordinator – Saker Falcon Global Action Plan will drive forward the international implementation of the SakerGAP.
CMS aims to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory species throughout their range.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Coordinator will perform the following functions-
- Provide technical assistance to the central implementation units (STF, SG and CU) to support the establishment of the Saker Falcon Network, including the four Regional Implementation Groups (RIGs) and to encourage widespread participation by stakeholders.
- Prepare and monitor the fulfillment of an Implementation Plan, including annual Work Plans and associated budgets, based on the Framework for Action table in the SakerGAP, and through extensive consultations with the central implementation units (STF, SG and CU) and RIGs.
- Provide overall technical and management guidance to the Regional Coordinators and stakeholders to ensure quality and timeliness of project work.
- Ensure effective liaison and maintain good communications with Regional Coordinators and stakeholders.
- Mobilize co-financing with partners through joint applications to potential donors and sponsors.
- Under the guidance of the CU, organize meetings, regional workshops and other international activities (to be rotated among the regions as appropriate), including workshops to share experiences in thematic areas and exchange visits amongst stakeholders and project sites, in accordance with the annual Work Plans.
- Provide suggestions on harmonizing strategies, policies and regulatory measures with a view to mainstreaming sustainable use and management of the Saker Falcon, and developing synergies among international, regional and national sectoral plans and policies.
- Collate and disseminate relevant documentation and experiences within the Saker Falcon Network to promote consistency and high standards of implementation.
- Prepare timely and high quality project progress reports for submission to the Saker Falcon Network in accordance with agreed reporting requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Relevant Higher Degree qualification – MSc. or PhD. in Ecology, Biology or closely related subject.
- At least 10 years’ working experience in bird/raptor conservation policy and practice, with recognized technical expertise, including the development and implementation of tools such as Biodiversity Conservation Strategies or Species Action Plans.
- Experience in combining species conservation policies and practical conservation management activities taking account of the needs of stakeholders to secure ‘win-win’ outcomes.
- Extensive experience in management and/or implementation of complex projects at national or regional levels, including provision of strategic guidance, technical oversight, team building; developing workplans, and managing budgets and project expenditure.
- Proven analytical, presentation and report writing skills, including a high aptitude for computing and experience of GIS; proven interpersonal skills, including in multi-cultural situations, with broad experience of networking with partners at all levels (e.g. government agencies, NGOs, donors, private sector and local community-based organizations); ability to operate efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision [coupled with a willingness to work long hours and to travel widely, if necessary].
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Additional skills in Arabic and/or Russian languages would be an advantage.
