United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Protection Cluster Coordinator in Amman, Jordan.
The Protection Cluster Coordinator will be responsible for the overall management and oversight of UNHCR protection and operational response as well as the coordination of activities of other protection actors at the level of the Southern Syria cross-border operations from Jordan.
UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Protection Cluster Coordinator will perform the following functions-
- Direct and contribute to the development of strategic directions and priorities for protection and other actors in relation to the southern Syria cross-border humanitarian response from Jordan, including the development of assessments, appeals and strategic documents, such as the Strategic Response Plan or the Humanitarian Response Plan.
- Coordinate a consultative process with relevant counterparts, partners and persons of concern to develop and implement protection and operational strategies in southern Syria.
- Maintain a mapping of the relevant contingency and ongoing humanitarian responses and humanitarian actors and working groups (sectors, sub-groups, access groups) including calendar/scheduling, membership composition, accountabilities, tasks and outputs of the Syria cross-border hub in Amman.
- Participate in internal meetings and consultations within UNHCR to contribute to consistent and cohesive policy development related to cross-border operations in southern Syria.
- Act as an interlocutor and facilitate information sharing on behalf of UNHCR with agencies and actors involved in the southern Syria cross-border operation from Jordan, representing the sectors/clusters, for which UNHCR has (co-) leadership.
- In coordination with the relevant information management staff, support the development and maintenance of IM tools for specific/sectors/clusters for southern Syria.
- Ensure close consultation with and information-sharing with UNHCR Jordan, UNHCR’s Whole of Syria focal -points and the MENA Bureau as to political, security and humanitarian developments in southern Syria, including related to displacement or potential displacement and relevant aspects of the cross-border response from Jordan.
- Maintain regular contact with the functional units at MENA Protection Service, Headquarters and UNHCR staff in the countries concerned.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in Law, International Law, Political Sciences or related field with good knowledge of International refugee, Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience including 10 years in an international capacity.
- Excellent managerial, communication and negotiation skills.
- Through understanding of UNHCR with regard to global policies as well as operational and administrative issues.
- Excellent knowledge of English with working knowledge of another relevant UN language.
