World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Medical Officer in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration for the post is of 1 year.
The Medical Officer is an expert on public health approaches for improving newborn health and survival and for supporting research and development of guidelines for newborn health and survival interventions.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Medical Officer will perform the following functions-
- Develop new guidelines and other innovative tools for the improved prevention and management of newborn health problems by member states.
- Promote research for the delivery of newborn health interventions at the community and health facility levels.
- Manage research projects on newborn health supported by MCA, including monitoring and supporting quality of research implementation.
- Conduct and manage research projects supported by MCA implemented with high quality and research findings disseminated.
- Development or revision of existing guidelines to translate evidence into improved delivery of interventions for newborn health and survival.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in pediatrics from a recognized university, with specialization in newborn health.
- PhD or equivalent degree related to newborn health.
- Extensive knowledge on newborn health issues, including epidemiology, health facility and community-based interventions.
- Ability to work on setting the research agenda on newborn health to identify priority issues for improving newborn health and survival, in particular in the context of the delivery of effective interventions at the facility and community level.
- Ability to conduct systematic reviews and to assess the quality of the evidence summarized.
- Ability to develop guidelines following the GRC process and to write clear reports and papers on research findings for dissemination.
- Ability to cooperate effectively with research teams in the context of monitoring and supporting study implementation.
- At least seven years’ experience working in research on newborn health and providing clinical newborn health care in developing countries.
- Experience in conducting research, as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Conducting and publishing systematic reviews.
- Involvement with development of guidelines.
- Expert knowledge of English.
- Beginner’s knowledge of French.
