The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Urban, Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction Officer, based in Seoul, South Korea.
The Urban, Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction Officer will provide technical expertise, develop the pipeline and oversee the portfolio in the areas of urban, transport, and disaster risk reduction to help developing countries make a paradigm shift toward low carbon and climate resilient development pathway.
The GCF (“the Fund”) is a multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Urban, Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction Officer will perform the following functions-
- Originating a pipeline of projects and programs in the areas of urban, transport and disaster risk reduction, in collaboration with implementing entities, national designated authorities, and other relevant staff in the Secretariat.
- Developing relevant policy documents, operational guidelines, procedures, document templates, reports, tools and other products.
- Participating in the readiness support work program and review and assessment of concept notes and funding proposals through the provision of technical expertise and practical guidance on the development and improvement of proposed country programs, concept notes and funding proposals.
- Contributing to design and implementation of operations information systems.
- Managing external consultants, monitoring performance, reviewing outputs and recommending and taking corrective actions when needed.
- Monitoring the relevant portfolio and providing support to the implementation of the projects to ensure their performance in line with the intended results.
- Providing technical expertise and contributing to the Fund’s knowledge management activities.
- Collaborating closely with colleagues in the Country Programming Division (CPD) and Private Sector Facility (PSF).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, economics, environment, or another relevant field.
- At least 5 years or more of relevant work experience.
- In-depth knowledge and proven operational experience in the relevant sectors (urban, transport, disaster risk reduction), addressing climate change related issues in developing countries.
- Solid skills and experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation activities, particularly in the areas of reducing emissions through increased access to low‐emission transport, reducing emissions from buildings, cities, industries and appliances and improving resilience through reducing risks of climate-related disasters.
- Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a broad range of stakeholders and maintain good working relationships.
- Good teamwork, collaboration and inclusion.
- Fluency in English is essential.
- Knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
