Human Rights Watch (HRW) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Arabic Web and Social Media Manager in Tunis, Beirut, Amman, Turkey, Middle East & Northern Africa.
This Arabic Web and Social Media Manager reports jointly to the Advocacy and Communications Director in the MENA division, and to HRW’s Senior Online Editor.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Arabic Web and Social Media Manager will perform the following functions-
- Manage and increase followership of HRW’s social media accounts including HRW’s Arabic Twitter feed, Face book Arabic page, Integra Arabic posts, and other social media accounts.
- Promote HRW material (news releases, reports, photos, videos and other documents produced by HRW) through creative, appealing, attention-grabbing Tweets (with relevant hash tags), Face book posts, Integra posts and other social media formats.
- Create and maintain lists of opinion leaders on Twitter, Face book and Integra, MENA-wide and for each Arab country, and frequently notify/tag/@ the names on those lists, in an optimized manner, with links to HRW material.
- Manage and update the HRW Arabic-language website, ensure country pages are up to date, and post content to the website as required.
- Propose scripts, research relevant images and sound bites for, and help edit short YouTube videos in Arabic promoting HRW material.
- Propose ideas for Arabic info graphic designs to promote HRW findings in a creative, visual way.
- Gather and analyze traffic numbers, social media metrics and other data that will assist in assessing and bolstering the digital presence of HRW’s MENA division.
- Vet and edit Arabic translations of HRW material for accuracy and meaning; and.
- Carry out such other tasks as requested in relation to HRW’s Arabic online presence.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, social sciences, international relations, Middle Eastern studies, or a relevant field is required. An advanced degree in a relevant area is desirable.
- A minimum of three years of online journalism or web editing or social media managing experience is required.
- A minimum of one year in translation (English to Arabic) experience is preferred.
- Exceptional written communication skills in Arabic and English are required.
- Proven track record of social media account management, including in Arabic, demonstrating innovative posts leading to an increase in followership is required.
- Proven track record as a writer and/or editor is required.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and logically is required.
- Experience working on a Content Management System (“CMS”), Drupe preferred, or publishing to a website is required.
- Ability and self-motivation to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a member of a team is required.
- Flexibility in responding quickly to events as they occur and producing excellent written material under tight deadlines is required.
- Strong online/Microsoft Office skills are required. Experience with HTML, photo, and video editing is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience with translating material from English to Arabic and vice versa is desirable. Experience with translation workflows is desirable.
- Experience with a wire service, newspaper, or online journalism site or other news organization is desirable.
- A broad range of knowledge about human rights and international affairs is desirable.
