Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Communication Officer in Rome, Italy. The duration of this post is 2 years.
The Communication Officer will be responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization.
FAO promotes good practice in addressing governance challenges across its Strategic Objectives by strengthening its contribution to global governance, identifying mission-critical governance issues at national, regional and multilateral levels.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Communication Officer performs the following functions-
- Researches and analyzes technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support internal and/or external communication.
- Produces a variety of information and reports as well as input for communication-related documents and web pages.
- Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases.
- Participates on multi-disciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams collaborates with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.
- Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.
- Drafts press releases, articles, briefing notes, opinion-articles, , talking points, key messages and other written communication material, ensuring a high level of accuracy and consistency.
- Supports social media outreach.
- Reviews drafts and manuscripts for adherence to corporate policy, in consultation with relevant departments and units, and provides analysis and recommendations as required.
- Liaises closely with other divisions/units and regional/country offices to ensure the development and timely delivery of multimedia communication materials for the Organization.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science or a related field.
- Five years of relevant experience in communication, public information, or journalism (candidates holding a first level university degree may also be considered if possessing two additional years of relevant work experience).
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
- Extent and relevant experience in the field of communication services for prominent organizations, particularly at the international level, including substantive experience in journalism.
- Extent and relevant experience in drafting high-quality written materials for a wide variety of audiences.
- Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
- Extent and relevant experience in drafting press releases, articles, briefing notes, opinion-articles, talking points, key messages and other written communication material in English, is considered a strong asset.
