Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Copy Editor I in Baltimore, US.
The Copy Editor serves as one of two line editors for the Charitable Giving Division’s editorial process.
CRS carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Copy Editor I will perform the following functions-
- With guidance from Senior Managing Editor, acts as a gatekeeper for editorial review processes of a variety of publications and media for Charitable Giving division.
- Collaborates with staff writers, fellow editors, internal clients and others involved in editorial process.
- Edits more than 50 print publications per year (including donor magazines, annual report, newsletters, brochures and special publications); multimedia materials; and pages for the CRS website, including blogs and photo galleries, ensuring accuracy and appropriate and consistent message.
- Edits and proofread materials from the CRS President & CEO’s office and other CRS divisions or units, as needed.
- Develops concepts and provides written content for online and direct mail solicitations, and other materials to engage donors.
- Researches, writes, edit, proofreads and checks facts for donor materials for the division.
- Regularly evaluates and updates CRS style and boilerplate materials, manages online CRS Editorial Calendar, assists team with editorial resources pages on SharePoint site.
- Collects, edits, updates, maintains and tracks human interest stories in online database for use across agency.
- Manages web-based internal communications vehicles to facilitate information sharing and project management among agency communicators.
- Attends meetings and works collaboratively with Charitable Giving, U.S. Operations, Overseas Support Department, Country Representatives, Program Quality and Support.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing, international development or related field.
- Minimum five years’ experience editing, writing and managing high-quality written communication projects for general and specialty audiences.
- Fastidious research, writing and editing skills.
- Adapts to all varieties of communication, from print to web, news to features, blogs to annual reports, magazines to multimedia, essays to captions.
- Thorough understanding of editing demands, including track record of successful collaborations with writers, editors, print and Web designers, video producers.
- Expertise in editorial best practices for print and web communications.
- Working knowledge of standard style guides (AP, Chicago, etc.).
- Experience with technical and/or complex editorial content.
- Working knowledge of world geography and demographics.
- Working knowledge of design principles for print, Web and info graphics.
- Proficient in software packages, including: MS Word (including all editing functions); Excel; PowerPoint; Adobe; project management tools.
- Firm grasp of SEO (search engine optimization) and search marketing, a plus.
- Knowledge of HTML and familiarity with content management/development programs a plus.
- Excellent project management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet short- and long-term deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
- Excellent judgment, independent decision-making and organizational skills.
