United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economic Affairs Officer in Bangkok, Thailand.
ESCAP is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Economic Affairs Officer performs the following functions-
- Monitors economic developments in the area of maritime and intermodal transport and logistics of regional relevance; and identifies recurrent and emerging issues of concern to the United Nations.
- Prepares studies/reports/publications on selected issues in economic development.
- Related to maritime transport and logistics, including national and sub-regional policies, action plans and application of new technologies.
- Interprets and applies results of transport modeling to analysis of economic prospects and policies.
- Develops draft policy recommendations pertaining to area of work.
- Provides guidance to countries on integration and coordination of maritime transport with related intermodal transport, taking into account the development needs of Member countries.
- Formulates proposals for development strategies, policies and measures for presentation to intergovernmental bodies and others.
- Attends in international, regional, and national meetings to hold discussions with representatives of other institutions.
- Organizes expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on maritime and intermodal transport and logistics issues.
- Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff.
- Represents the Division and ESCAP at international, regional and national meetings.
- Designs, implements and monitors technical cooperation projects on maritime and intermodal transport and logistics.
- Conducts training seminars and workshops for government officials and other stakeholders in member countries.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, transport economics, law, engineering or related field.
- A relevant first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in, international transport facilitation, policy formulation, application of economic principles in international transport, or related areas.
- Practical experience in the field of national maritime transport planning and/or research in Asia and the Pacific are desirable.
- Fluency in English is required. English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
- Knowledge of the other is desirable.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
