United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Assistant in Bangkok, Thailand.
ESCAP is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant performs the following functions-
- Provides assistance in support of planning and implementation of activities for the Regional Programme on Economic Statistics such as scoping and technical assistance missions, meetings and training activities; prepares revised budget estimates; reports on budget revisions, expenditures and obligations; verifies availability of funds; ensures necessary approval and entry in computerized budget system; initiates financial authorizations for expenditures.
- Researches, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data in support of capacity building activities on economic statistics, including background materials for assessment papers, studies, briefs, meeting materials and content for the Regional Programme website.
- Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of the Regional Programme on Economic Statistics; categorizes updates, tracks and analyses data related to the programme; carries out periodic status reviews, identifies issues and initiates requisite follow-up actions.
- Drafts programme summaries; coordinates review and clearance process, and coordinates with editors, translation services, etc. for the finalization and publication of reports in multiple languages.
- Prepares, maintains and updates files (electronic and paper) and internal databases; designs and generates a variety of periodic and ad hoc reports, statistical tables, graphic content, and other background materials/notes to facilitate inspection and other reviews.
- Drafts correspondence and communications related to all aspects of programme administration, including work plan and budgets, revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- First level university degree in statistics, economics or a related field is highly desirable.
- A minimum of seven years of experience in technical cooperation, programme or project administration is required.
- Research assistance in economic or statistical development or a related field is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
