The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Green House Gas Consultant, based in Kampala, Uganda.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Green House Gas Consultant will perform the following functions-
- Support key sectors in developing appropriate MoUs for data sharing and collection. This will involve raising awareness on the importance of such agreements with key data providers and development of proposals for formal and informal agreements for consistent data sharing;
- Enhance mainstreaming of GHG Inventory management systems within key GHG sectors at national and local government level;
- Review existing GHG emission factors used in the Ugandan context and recommendations made on which emission factors it would be useful to improve over time; enhance transfer of knowledge on best methodologies for determining GHG emissions;
- Provide guidance/planning on preparatory activities towards Third National Communication and BUR;
- Review activity data collection conducted to date and oversee implementation of the archiving strategies to ensure effective national GHG Inventory management systems;
- Assess and advise on how to integrate GHG data collection processes into national statistics data collection systems;
- Establish and implement an institutionalised systematic, standardized process for collecting, documenting and archiving data, including preparation of reporting formats to collect, assess and share activity data and or maps and documentations;
- Build capacity of key data providers to generate appropriate activity datasets at level;
- Develop an improvement plan to address data gaps and needs to achieve higher tier inventory estimates for key categories;
- Robust Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission inventories database established using collected activity data;
- Robust online Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory tracking system for data collection and sharing.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An advanced post-graduate university degree in a subject related to climate change and/or environmental management;
- At least 10 years of experience in application of IPCC methodologies for GHG inventories;
- Extensive experience working in developing countries on GHG inventory issues;
- Knowledge of the existing GHG process in Uganda;
- Familiarity with international negotiations and processes under the UNFCCC;
- Excellent ability to communicate in English both written and spoken.
