International Organization for Migration (IOM) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Medical Officer in Nairobi, Kenya. The duration for the post is of 1 year.
The Medical Officer will support regional Health Assessment Programme (HAP) programming through various activities, including support for the coordination, management and implementation of the United States Refugee Admissions Programme (USRAP) and other activities related to migration health assessments in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Medical Officer will perform the following functions-
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Regional HAP Coordinator in the planning and delivery of the regional USRAP programme. This assistance includes the collation and consolidation of data, information and plans around the management and implementation of USRAP-related health assessment activities in the region, as well as the transformation of such into consolidated action plans.
- In coordination with the Regional HAP Coordinator assist with the arrangement of other migration health services as needed, such as pre-departure medical screening and treatment for refugees.
- Assist in the implementation of and adherence to IOM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quality assurance and control and the adequate reporting of incidents in the established Global Incident Reporting System.
- Standardize all aspects of the HAP programme including, but not limited to, fraud prevention, applicant registration, quality radiological services, tuberculosis (TB) investigation and referral for treatment and submission of completed files.
- Assist in ensuring oversight and maintenance of quality control/quality assurance procedures within HAP operations in the region, which include but are not limited to reviewing chest x ray films and reports, TB laboratory reports and treatment records and liaising with service provider (Radiology Unit, TB Laboratory) on a regular basis.
- Train IOM Migration Health Staff in all relevant medical procedures, migration health assessments, pre-embarkation checks and pre-departure medical assistance as per regulations provided by MHD and Immigration Medical Departments of migrant destination countries.
- Advice and support technical staff directly involved in Health Assessment Programmes.
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- University degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution with at least seven years of relevant professional experience.
- University degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution plus Master’s Degree in Public Health, Medical Specialization in Pulmonology, Internal Medicine (including different sub-specialties of internal medicine group), Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases or other related fields from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.
- Working experience in the domain of medicine, four years of which is continuous clinical experience (either in clinical set-ups or immigration/resettlement medical examinations or health assessments).
- Experience with team management/ supervision is required, preferably within the context of immigration/resettlement medical examinations.
- Progressive work experience in TB or other communicable disease control programmes among refugees and migrants in an international organization, UN agency or hospital.
- Health sector working experience in Africa, especially in remote settings is an

- Experience in liaising with resettlement partners, international organizations, and health services providers is an advantage.
- Fluency in English is required.
