The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Intern – Programme Management based in New York, USA.
OSAA strives for coordinated, effective and sustained UN and international support for Africa’s transformative efforts for inclusive sustainable peace, Security, socioeconomic development and justice for all in the continent.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Intern – Programme Management will perform the following functions-
- Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, background papers and talking points for senior officials;
- Assist in the organization of the meetings of the Inter-Agency/Departmental Task Force on African Affairs, Expert Group Meetings, Panel Discussions and other events;
- Assist in researching relevant issues for the drafting of technical reports;
- Follow the work of UN bodies and bring to the attention of the Chief of Branchs emerging issues in the areas of governance, democracy, human rights, peace and security affecting the development of Africa (CAPDB); or on issues affecting Africa’s development in the area of trade, foreign direct investment, debt, aid for trade, regional integration, economic diversification, private sector development, sustainable development, climate change, south-south cooperation, and official development aid (PAMB);
- Undertake other assignments as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Enrollment in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- Graduation with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
- Computer literacy in standard software applications;
- Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme;
- English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat;
- Fluency in oral and written English is required for the internship;
- Knowledge of other languages, especially French is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
