Open Society Foundations (OSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Program Officer in London, United Kingdom.
The Program Officer will be responsible for engaging with fields of interest to Open Society Foundations, developing appropriate strategies and tools for fostering desired social change, while also developing and managing relationships with other entities including potential and current grantees.
The OSF works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Program Officer will perform the following functions-
- Continue to develop working partnerships with successful community initiatives and leading NGOs in selected European countries.
- Facilitate the growing network of the most effective local actors across Europe.
- Support innovative research around marginalization and discrimination in education in Europe, with particular attention to education and integration of migrant communities.
- Supervise and guide consultants related to work in this area.
- Liaise with other relevant OSF and non-OSF actors on migration and discrimination in education issues.
- Grant management/oversight of ESP major education grants in Europe.
- Responsible for overall management of the Grassroots Mobilization and Community Activism in Europe portfolio and related grant-making activities.
- Operate with considerable autonomy and makes decisions related to authorizing/declining grants within an approved budget reflective of own field experience/expertise.
- Supervise effective communication and dissemination activities (project leaflets, project brochures), organizes press conferences.
- Manage planning activities on the sustainability of the portfolio, including third-party funding activities.
- May participate in the development of overall program strategy and conduct research to support program design.
- Responsible for strengthening connections between OSF’s geographic and thematic programs consistent with OSF’s broader priorities, identifying opportunities where a shared approach might have the potential to create a broader impact.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent experience/education; graduate degree preferred.
- Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in a situation, generally in an organization other than a foundation, relevant to the duties of this role is typically necessary to develop the skills required for this role.
- Ability to articulate a deep understanding of and vision for change based on experience and/or knowledge and is able to use that understanding to develop and implement a strategy for achieving the vision.
- Demonstrated success in advancing social change strategies, including planning and implementing modifications in response to an evolving situation.
- Demonstrated understanding of the implications of the power differential inherent in the funder-grantee relationship and has demonstrated the ability and the willingness to handle such relationships properly and respectfully.
- Ability to exercise measured and appropriate judgment, rooted in analysis and often under circumstances in which insufficient information is available and/or the circumstances are highly volatile.
- Mastery of analytical approaches and options, and ability to make sound informed judgments.
- Project management skills, including the ability to direct others to effectively gather evidence and research to inform decisions or judgments.
- Ability to exercise effective and inclusive leadership in cross-cultural settings.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English are important.
- Knowledge of another European language.
