Access to Learning Award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recognizes the efforts of organizations, including libraries around the world (outside of United States), which have made innovating efforts in ensuring the access of information for the people mostly through the use of computers and the internet.
Although public libraries are mostly eligible to apply, the proposal invitation is also made to organizations working with disadvantaged communities. The organizations should be helping communities in accessing online information and ensuring that they achieving empowerment by learning to manage this information through the use of internet. The internet services rendered to the communities should be free.
