NGOs, individuals and other institutions can apply for the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for apply Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) tools and techniques in education. The prize has an award of US $50,000 in addition to a diploma which will be distributed among two final prize winners. The Prize specifically looks for models, best practices and creative use of ICT for enhancing learning, teaching and overall educational performance.
Since this is an UNESCO-organized Prize, applicants need to be presented through either by the government of the member country or by an international NGO that holds a formal consultative relations with UNESCO and is active in the concerned field of this Prize. Only two nominations can be made by one government or the international organization and self-nominations are not accepted.
The nominated work should have multiplier effect, should have resulted in the development of original teaching and learning materials or products, mainstream use of technologies in education, disseminate and encourage reuse of open educational resources and encourage research and development leading to better access of technologies by marginalized communities.
Each nomination should give a brief description of the nominee and the work undertaken and its relation to the objectives of the Prize. A multimedia presentation of the work may also be required. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2009. For more information, visit this link.
