The Asia‐Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) seeks proposals under two separate programmes, the Annual Regional Call for Research Proposals (ARCP) Programme and the Scientific Capacity Building/Enhancement for Sustainable Development in Developing Countries (CAPaBLE) Programme, for funding from April 2012, and is able to provide a limited amount of financial support1 for research and capacity development activities that fall within its areas of interest.
APN is an inter-governmental network whose mission is to enable investigations of changes in the Earth’s life support systems and their implications for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
About ARCP
ARCP is one of the scientific pillars of the APN to encourage and promote global change research in the Asia-Pacific region that has potential, in addition to improving the understanding of global change and its implications in the region, to contribute to the establishment of a sound scientific basis for policy-making with regard to issues for which global change is an important factor. The ARCP is a competitive process launched in April 1998 for the first time to select projects for funding under the Science Agenda of the APN.
Activities of Interest under the ARCP Programme
– New research which addresses knowledge gaps in key scientific areas
– Synthesis and analysis of existing research
– Research planning/scoping activities
– The development of policy products such as integrated assessments, impact assessments, climate models, etc.
About CAPaBLE
CAPaBLE programme is enhancing scientific capacity in developing countries to improve decision-making relating to issues that are directly linked to their sustainable development. This effort is being achieved through a two-track process of capacity enhancement for experienced leading scientists and capacity development for early-career scientists under the APN Annual Call for Proposals. An evaluation of Phase One of CAPaBLE (2003-2006) was conducted in 2008, the results of which reaffirmed the urgency and need for a programme like CAPaBLE as an integrated pillar of APN activities focussing on scientific capacity development, particularly for developing countries.
Activities of Interest under the CAPaBLE Programme
– Scientific capacity development for sustainable development
– Science-policy Interfacing
– Awareness raising Activities
– Dissemination Activities
