The Japan Fund for Global Environment has currently issued the notification for 2016 Conservation Grants programme timeline. The Fund makes grants to legally registered non-profit organizations in Japan and developing countries for field projects in environmental conservation. Each non-Japanese applicant needs to have an agent in Japan to apply in Japanese language on behalf of the applicant.
JFGE grant for overseas is exclusively for the environmental conservation activities implemented in developing countries and areas.
Project Areas
Conservation of Biodiversity that include
- Nature protection, conservation and restoration
- Forest conservation and reforestation
- Prevention of desertification
- Agriculture of environmental conservation type
- Mitigation and adaptation to climate change
- Building of a recycle-based society
- Air, water and soil conservation
- Comprehensive environmental education
- Comprehensive environmental conservation activities
- Other environmental conservation activities
Grant Programs & Budget Available
- Entry Grant: Especially for growing the local efforts and grass-roots activities
- Grant Period- 1 year (extendable to maximum 3 years depend on the progress)
- Range of Grant Amount (per year): Minimum 500,000 JPY~ Maximum 3,000,000 JPY
- Regular Grants: Especially for developing the expertise of organization
- Grant Period-Maximum 3 years
- Grant Range: Minimum 2,000,000 JPY~ Maximum 6,000,000 JPY
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be a non-governmental organization(NGO) or a non-profit organization(NPO)implementing environmental conservation activities in developing countries mentioned above.
- Applicant must have any agent (organization or individual) that has a bank account in Japan and can communicate with JFGE about the project in Japanese.
- The organization must possess an Articles of Incorporation or its equivalent by laws.
- The organization must possess a well-established board of directors and work forces that make decisions for the organization and implements the activities of the proposed project.
- The organization must possess an accounting structure capable of bookkeeping and self-auditing.
- The organization must possess an office that serves as a base of their activities.
- The organization must prove that they have enough capacity to execute the proposed project by presenting the firm evidence, such as activity report of previous activities and achievements .
- For entry Grant: Organisations must be
- Having at least 1 year experience in the related activity to the proposed project
- Established less than 10 years ago
- First time to be granted by JFGE
- For regular grant seekers: Organisation must be having at least 3 year experience in the related activity to the proposed project.
