The International Human Rights Colloquium is organizing its tenth edition on the subject of “Regional and International Human Rights Systems: Challenges for Civil Society Participation” in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 9 to 16 October 2010. The Colloquium is an annual forum bringing together “human rights activists and scholars from Latin America, Africa and Asia with the objective of creating a space for participants to exchange experiences and knowledge, access innovative perspectives regarding different human rights issues and create new partnerships.” The X Colloquium is sponsored by the Open Society Institute, the Ford Foundation, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Sigrid Rausing Trust, among others.
The X Colloquium will bring together a diverse group of young human rights activists and scholars from the Global South to collectively discuss the possibilities of mutual influence and exchange between the regional systems and the international system of human rights protection. This Colloquium will have a Global South perspective and will approach the three functions of the human rights regional systems: protection in individual cases, monitoring general situations and standard-setting.
Young human rights activists from the Global South with at least two years of work experience in the field can apply to participate in the Colloquium. There are a limited number of full and partial scholarships to cover the expenses of participation and applicants can request the same by specifying the category under which they are applying. Applications can be submitted online or through email.
The last date to submit applications is 30 June 2010. For more information, visit this link.
