The UK-based newspaper, Guardian in partnership with the Department for International Development (DFID) and Marie Stopes International has launched the Guardian Achievements in International Development Award. The award is meant to recognize the achievements of those unsung heroes who have made “a profound contribution to the alleviation of poverty.” Individuals who have worked to improve the living conditions of the poorest people around the world either directly or indirectly can nominate themselves for the award.
This is an international award so nominations are invited from any country. Only individuals can apply for the award. Nominations can be submitted online. Out of the entries received, a panel of judges will select the five finalists, whose names will be listed on the Guardian’s website where people can vote for the final winner. The voting process will begin from 24 August 2009 and will end on 25 September 2009. The final winner will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on 19 November 2009 in London. The last date for the nominations is 24 July 2009. For more information, visit this link.
