Selection and Eligibility Criteria
- Age range of 18-32 years
- Demonstrable experience working with youth groups on environment and sustainable development issues
- Demonstrable experience of being in leadership positions in the youth organizations for a minimum of 1 year
- Resident or citizen in one of the Middle East, north Africa or Eastern European and Central Asian countries
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Available to participate in the training of Master Trainers on 15-18 June 2010 at the Istanbul Technical University, Turkey
Candidates will have to submit a two-page completed application form in English using the template in the Annex and include a short project proposal describing what they would do with the learning and skills building gained from the training if selected. Preference will be given to candidates from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Serbia,
Turkey and Yemen – countries that participated in the WBI youth-climate change course – and/or are involved in other youth-climate change and environment programs in the British Council or Istanbul Technical University. Candidates selected will be required to complete an e-learning course entitled “Fundamentals of Climate Change,” developed by the World Bank or another equivalent courses developed by partner or other organizations.
Project proposal guidelines
- The project should focus on raising awareness, deepening youth’s and local communities’ understanding of climate change, to change mindsets and behavior in order to move towards sustainable development.
- The project should include innovative ideas on interactive peer-to-peer learning, and use new and traditional media for youth outreach (social networks, websites, radio programs, TV shows, etc.).
- The projects that demonstrate potential for sustainability as well as being replicated and scaled up will have priority.
Travel and Accommodation
The selected participants will have the following expenses covered by the organizers: airfare (lowest economy), local transport to and from the airport at home and in Istanbul, accommodation, food and miscellaneous such as visa fees.
