Individuals and organizations including non-governmental and governmental agencies, civil society groups, the private sector and others with a Habitat Agency can be nominated for the UN-HABITAT’s Scroll of Honour.
Launched in 1989, the Scroll of Honour is the most prestigious human settlement award in the world. “its aim is to acknowledge initiatives which have made outstanding contributions in various fields such as shelter provision, highlighting the plight of the homeless, leadership in post conflict reconstruction, and developing and improving the human settlements and the quality of urban life.”
“The award, a plaque engraved with the name of the winner and their achievement will be presented to the winners during the Global Observance of World Habitat Day on 4 October 2010.”
The areas of achievement include disaster management and mitigation, economic development and finance, environment, information and monitoring, infrastructure, land and housing, social development and urban management.
